“DIVINE SYNCHRONICITY”
By Elder C. D. Rouson

As I celebrate this Christmas season, my mind eases as I appreciate being home with my family this year, being as though I have spent many of my most recent Christmases touring overseas. As I begin to think about my previous tours, one of which I opted not to take this year, I began to think about the reality that even that open door seemed to be based upon seemingly random circumstances that I did not ask for. I was first invited to tour with a artist I met at a random recording concert 4 years ago who happened to hear an original song I wrote for another artist. I did not plan to attend that recording concert that October night but chose to go because I lived only 10 minutes from the affair. Normally I leave concerts early, but I ironically decided to stay to the end, where I was unbeknowingly recognized for composing the song. Consequently, this particular artist walked up to me and put his card in my hand. Today I realize that had I not submitted my song for recording, gotten the sudden urge to go to the recording, stayed to the end, met this gentleman, began working with him, and traveling with his music ministry, I would have never spent a few holidays touring overseas, and thus I would not have really appreciated having a year off this year from working and being home for the holidays! WOW!

The typical reader here would ask, “What’s the point?” However, the point here is that random unrelated events have a way of connecting together to serve a common purpose and work for a greater good. Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist most noted as the father of analytical psychology, resolved that such kinds of random events as the aforementioned ones are connected by what he called synchronicity. Synchronicity, by definition, is the experience of two or more events that are causally unrelated occurring together in a meaningful manner. Jung used the term to explain what he called the “casual connecting principle” that links mind and matter. This connectedness manifests itself through meaningful coincidences that cannot be explained by cause and effect. However, C.G. Jung did not invent the principle of unrelated things working together for a meaningful end. For Romans 8:28 states, “And we know all things work together for good to them who love the Lord and are the called according to His purpose” (NKJ). Ephesians 1:11 also asserts, “In Him we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will” (NKJ). It is God’s will to cause seemingly random things to work together since the foundation of the world. This is what I mean by Divine Synchronicity.

Now someone may ask of the relevance of divine synchronicity to us celebrating the birth of Jesus this and every holiday season. I am elated you asked. Ponder with me in my folly as we explore the solution to this quandary found in St. Matthew chapter 1. There we will find our simple answer. What you will read from verses 1-18 is what is known as the genealogy of Jesus the Christ. When we celebrate the birth of Christ, we cannot celebrate Him being here without celebrating how he got here. His birth was immaculate and messianic, but his genealogical path was messy. He came through 42 generations filled with mistakes, mess, and men who had all kinds of issues. Can you image how many generational curses the Christ inherited that he would later take to the cross? Jesus is the ultimate generational curse breaker because he bore not only the sins of his forefathers, who were imperfect like us, but the sins of the entire world!

I can only think that had not this one begat that one, who messed up and begat one, who in turn begat that one, the Christ would not have come the way he did. Yet had he not come, he could not have died, and had He not died, we could not have been born AGAIN! I thank God for divine synchronicity because God has not ceased to use random people and random events to fulfill his will. For we should all take time this holiday season to think about just how many things it took for us to be who and where we are today. With that, I leave 2 simple instructions for you. First, remember that God can use anyone to change your life at anytime. Do not ignore those around you, for God may be trying to speak to you. Lastly, God can use anything to push you into your purpose. You could have regret, but if you subtracted your worst mistakes from your past, you would not get the same equation! It was the Lord working all things after His will and for your good! So keep your head up and continue to walk in the will of God.

Be blessed this holiday season and be grateful for the Divine Synchronicity of God’s will!
